Artificial Sweeteners Vs. Sugar.?

So I've gone on this health kick and was told that by cutting out sugar it could really help; one problem; after trying different sweeteners all week I've found to have one huge pounding headache after consuming Aspartame or even any other sweetener. Roomie says its all in my head; I say it really isn't. I never had an over amount of sugar, a tsp in my tea in the morning and a tsp in my tea at night. I never thought that this was an over amount; I drink natural fruit juices with no sugar added but recently most of the juices I use to enjoy have the "Now with artificial sweeteners" statement on them. I can't even drink a diet pop! Is this common among other people? I don't hear alot about it... anyone think that my sugar intake is okay as is? Or should I really cut out the sugar and forget about the sweeteners as well.

Sabine 脡 - Thank you for pointing that out; I didnt really think that sweeteners were the cause of my anxiety but it has been rather high and really making me on edge; I just figured it was the lack of extra sugar. Excellent link provided as well.

I haven't eaten any sugar in 8 months. I can't tolerate ANY artificial sweeteners or sugar. Anything with chemicals makes me sick. As a matter of fact, I just found out that the strawberries I ate at a family gathering were coated in Equal-- the next day I had a "hang-over"- headache, dehydrated, queasy.

My wellness clinic said sweeteners are to be avoided like the plague.

Headache is the most common adverse side effect attributed to aspartame but is seldom confirmed by single-dose double-blind challenge. Up to 11% of patients with chronic migraine headaches reported headaches triggered by aspartam.
In anecdotal reports, aspartame has been linked to various neuropsychiatric disorders, including panic attacks, mood changes, visual hallucinations, manic episodes, and isolated dizziness.
