Diabetes and artificial sweeteners?

have diabetes 2 and it seems that artificial sweeteners like Splenda raises my blood sugar....seems impossible so does anyone have a comment..thanx

It shouldn't. take a look at what you are eating with the Splenda. Does it have loads of carbs ?
Remember that it is carbs not sugar that we are concerned with .

Energy (caloric) content

Back of yellow Splenda consumer packet.Though marketed in the U.S. as a 鈥淣o calorie sweetener,鈥?Splenda contains 96 Calories per cup.[5] This is one-eighth the 770 Calories in the same volume of sugar.

Note too that although the 鈥渘utritional facts鈥?label on Splenda鈥檚 retail packaging state that a single serving of 1 gram (1 teaspoon or 5 milliliter) contains zero calories, Splenda actually contains two calories per teaspoon.[6] Such labeling is legal in the U.S. because the FDA鈥檚 regulations permit a product to be labeled as 鈥渮ero calories鈥?if the 鈥渇ood contains less than 5 calories per reference amount customarily consumed and per labeled serving.鈥漑7] Because Splenda contains a relatively small amount of sucralose (it鈥檚 an extremely sweet compound) and little of that is metabolized anyway since sucralose is an organochloride, virtually all of Splenda鈥檚 caloric content derives from the highly fluffed dextrose and/or maltodextrin bulking agent, or carrier, that gives Splenda its volume. Like other carbohydrates, dextrose and maltodextrin have approximately 4.5 calories per gram.

Personaly I would not use any artiffical sweeteners ...there seems to be a cancer connection with long term use .....

much more to research yet ......

That does seem impossible, Splenda is non-nutritive, your body can't digest it. Did you take anything else with the splenda that might have raised your blood sugar.

I agree that it depends upon what you are eating the Splenda in or with. Watch those carbs.

I agree with the other answerers, Splenda by itself shouldn't raise your blood sugar. I use it and so does my mother, it tastes great and it's as close to sugar, that I have found to still get the desired sweetness.

i would think it was what you are adding it to. i have used it for many years and it never has effected my blood sugar

well they have never raised my blood sugar but they do have a laxitave effect if you have too much lol just thought id let you know that one for future reference.
