Headaches caused by artificial sweeteners ? Anybody know about this?

I'm trying to narrow down the cause of headaches.
Just wondering if anybody knows if artificial sweeteners have been linked to headaches?
Thanks.

omg, dont get me started on how BAD artificial sweeteners are!! Yes, the definately can cause headaches if consumed in large amounts.

I recently discovered that I am allergic to phenylalanine (which in my case was being consumed by eating those Eclipse mints and Extra chewing gum).

I suffer from headaches, mouth inflammation and rashes on my body if I eat anything containing phenylalanine. It also increased my anxiety.

Its a very nasty chemical (as is aspartame) and you should streer clear of it.

Check out the websites below :

Nutrisweet/Aspertame

I don't know how scientific it is; but aspartame or Nutrisweet does seem to cause headaches in some people.

An old girlfriend of mine said she had headaches all the time. My mother, who was a nurse, told her to stop drinking soda with Nutrisweet. She did it, and said the headaches were gone.

Even though it never bothered me, I stayed away from the stuff ever since.

My cousin use to have headaches alot and the doctor said it was from all the artificial sweetners. The aspartame does something to some ppl's brain and different chemicals inside the brain causing headaches. He just suggested that she not use any artificial sweetners anymore and she is alot better now :)

Yes they have. Fake sugar is the pits. Avoid it as much as possible.

There have been many studies about headaches and artificial sweeteners. They all say that it does not cause headaches. BUT......there are alot of people out there that say they get headaches from artificial sweeteners. SO....I think they need to do another study on the RIGHT people.

well im a diabetic and must use them and i have no problems go to a doctor and take the brand with you and get some tests done better to be safe than sorry and you will find the cause are you a diabetic if not headachesare the first sign of high sugar levels !
