Do artificial sweeteners, like the ones in diet sodas, cause headaches?

Do artificial sweeteners, like the ones in diet sodas, cause headaches?

Yes... for some people.

I'm just plain allergic to them, so there are *other* complications that I get, in addition to a headache from nausia.

But, if you don't have any side effects, your body can probably tollerate them just fine. Many people have food that they just can't tollerate, so why would artificial sweeteners be any different than milk, wheat, soy, peanuts, shellfish...?

Not in most people.

Yes, some people can have a reaction to these sweeteners that causes headaches.

I don't know if they have scientifically proved the link but many people experience headaches from artificial sweeteners. As they are filled with chemicals the body can react in different ways, a headache being one of the most common. While they have been approved, I think that the safety of artificial sweeteners still isn't certain, best avoid them if you can or just not have too much (as I know sugars aren't so much better either!). Hope the headache clears!

Yes, for some people they can. I have a sister in law that gets sick and terrible headaches if she drinks soda or anything with it in it

For some people, yes they can, especially if overheated, as canned soda left in the sun in the summer.

Read your labels and minimize use of artificial sweeteners if they cause you a problem.

Try different ones, and try stevia from the health food store.

good luck

yes. Different people have different reactions to different ones. But headaches is a common side affect for nutri-sweet. The most common one.

The simplified answer: Yes!

Yes some may, and sorbitol which is in some of these compounds causes diarrhea.

Really, I couldn't say. It could be your eyes, or sinus, even long hair can cause headaches. I can tell you that artificial sweeteners do cause me to have leg cramps. I simply went on a diet, about a week later after drinking diet sodas, my legs cramped so bad that I could barely walk. That was twenty years ago. A long time ago, my mother in law made the best sweet tea, just loved it. My legs would cramp every night after I drink ed it. One day I saw her, she used artificial sweetener, no more tea for me.

You should limit them
