Natual Sugar VS. Artificial Sweetener......? |
Have a little dilema here....I can't decide whether to use natural sugar or an artificial sweetner the majority of the time. I am attempting to lose some weight, which makes me lean toward the fake stuff. Then, I think about the negative things that I've read on artifical sweetners...not to mention, they don't taste all that great. So I keep going back and forth on this. Any suggestions??? I personally think it's better to stick with real sugar but cut down on it when dieting. I'm very concerned about the overuse of sugar substitutes. I have a bad reaction to both aspartame (equal) and splenda. Equal gives me an immediate headache and splenda gives me dizzy spells. I stopped using both more than a year ago. Try fructose instead of normal sugar (sucrose). Fructose is fruit sugar and it's sweeter than sucrose so you need less of it. Fructose also has a lower GI than sucrose so it's better for you all round. Fructose should be available in most food stores. The brand "Splenda" is a fake sugar. We use it and cook with it. It's very sweet and doesn't have that terrible aftertaste that most sweeteners have. I would just use artificial sweetener, it does have fake ingredients but it will help you on your diet. more self control i guess. Just get used to not eating so many sweet things. Like tea, for example... if you drink tea, dont put sugar. it's how the chinese drink tea. Try using very little sugar. For example, use apple juice, apple sauce or pureed bananas to add sweetnes to cakes, cookies or muffins. I like Splenda, I think it tastes almost exactly like the real thing. It always makes me laugh that people are so concerned about artificial sweetener being bad for you when we regularly stuff our face with trans fat, chemicals we can't even pronounce, more sodium in one day then we should be having in a week, not to mention cigarette smoke, alcohol and man made medicine. If you want to lose weight, have the artificial sweetener, but don't overdo it. Moderation in all areas is the key to being healthy. Use the artificial sweetener. I'm diabetic, and didn't really care for the taste either at first. Now, I can't hardly stand the taste of sugar. It just takes getting used to. Use Splenda |
