Which sweeteners are safe?

I'm trying to cut out white sugar, corn syrup and and any other processed/chemically altered or artificial sweeteners. What other sweeteners can you use in baking? The ones I'm aware of are honey, stevia, and fruit juice. Other suggestions?

Splenda is processed. I am looking for NATURAL sweetners with a relatively neutral taste (unline molasses) that can be used instead of white sugar. Please do NOT suggest splenda, aspartame, nutra-sweet etc. as they are all chemically produced.

Absolutely.

For baking, you might try Lakonta, which has been safely used in Japan for many years and is recommended by Donna Gates (www.bodyecologydiet.com).

Agave nectar is another wonderful choice. I love it, taste very similar to honey, but has a Glycemic Index that is said to average between 11 and 19. It is suitable for baking, too, but I would only bake with the amber or darker agave nectars that have clearly been heat processed somewhat. See note below on Alissa Cohen's truly raw agave. I have been happy with other agave brands, but am going to try this one next. I love agave nectar on toasted sprouted bread with real, raw butter. Delish treat! And not quite as cloyingly sweet as honey, which I like.

While at her site, check out cacao nibs, too, for making raw chocolate confections like shakes

Coconut oil is a great substitute for other oils in baking, as well. Check out the benefits by googling it and/or look for articles on www.tropicaltraditions.com. I believe I also purchased my organic cocoa powder there.....

When it comes to honey, you might try www.reallyrawhoney.com. Apparently many honey dealers that claim to sell raw honey actually do some heat-treating to clarify it and make it more appealing to buyers used to heat-treated honeys. The best health benefits seem to come from honey that has not gotten any hotter than it would in the hive, and has improved blood sugar levels in diabetics, even. The folks at reallyrawhoney really mean it when they say "raw." You would negate many benefits by baking with it.

in baking, you can use splenda.
:)

sweetners are zero calories. usually they're just a 'replacement' like splenda

Molasses.
