Splenda artificial sweetener?

My husband has Type II diabetes, so we only use Splenda (doesn't contain aspartame) to sweeten our drinks or do our baking. It's helped a lot, and my doctor told me it would be safe throughout my pregnancy.

However, I'm wondering... is it safe to continue to use the sugar substitute down the road, when the baby is eating solid foods that we fix at home? Or do kids need a certain amount of actual sugar in their diet?

Splenda is generally considered safe, though there are certain people who don't trust it because it is an artificial sweetener.

Kids don't need refined sugars at all as part of their diet. The natural sugar in fruit and other foods is sufficient. In fact everyone should limit the amount of refined sugar they eat. It's fine to use Splenda in any baking or cooking you do.

yes kids do need a certain amount of sugar in their diet. I am not sure which one splenda is but I work for a doctor and overheard him tell a patient that all powder sweeteners were dangerous. the only one you should be using is the liquid one. He is a very smart doctor.

Well splenda is ok but you also need real sugar sucrose fructose. The milk you give the food already has real sugar but just add when giving home cooked meals to the child

I would not use artificial sweeteners at all. If you have a very sweet tooth then use a little honey to sweeten your tea.
Science does not know how artificial sweeteners affect babies in the womb but seeing all these children with ADHD, it cannot be good.

Splenda is ok for adults to take on a regular basis. My husband does. However as the name "artificial sweetener" does imply that you do want to feed your kids with the real thing.

Well, Splenda can tend to cause some people to go diarreah (sp?) often, esp. in children because they are so young and not as developed as adults are. And for your baby, it may be even worse, but that doesn't happen for all people. And, I think that your child, like all people would probably get enough regular sugar from eating fruit and special treats.

those artificial sweeteners are made for diabetics or have high blood sugar level...Those sweeteners have aspartame, which might be dangerous if taken frequently. if ur kids are not diabetic ( i hope not) then just give them the regular sugar....no reason for them to take the artificial sweetener

Artificial sweeteners like Splenda are touted as safe and people are consuming them at a record pace. The truth? They're potentially one of THE most serious of all threats to your health today. There have only been six human trials to date on this substance, and the longest trial lasted three month!
Splenda bears more chemical similarity to DDT than it does to sugar.

Kids don't need table sugar or chemicals- they can get "sugar" from fruit and complex carbs.
