Skin Conditions?

I have had a skin condition for about 18 months that effects my hands, feet, nose, eyelids and, occasionally, my lips and mouth. It takes the form of little white pieces of skin that looks almost like cotton wool but hard. Around my nails, and the actual nails themselves, are particularly effected. The skin cracks and peels and my nails go soft, lumpy and break easily. There is no itchiness. I have been advised this is a form of eczema. I have tried various treatments through my doctor and even Chinese herbs and acupuncture, to no avail. Has anyone else come across this, and did they discover a treatment that actually worked?

This sounds like a form of psoriasis and really needs treating by a dermatologist as it can get worse and worse.

Psoriasis occurs when the body makes new skin before the old skin has dies and fallen off.
It usually takes the form of red spots and marks or hard white cotton wool like skin.
You cannot successfully treat it yourself and there is unfortunately no cure but a dermatologist can help you to keep it under control.

A dermatologist will have access to stronger creams and better knowledge than a general doctor has so I recommend you see a dermatologist as soon as you can.

Are you sure it's not scariasis (sp) pronounced soorisis?
If it is then it can come as a form of stress.
Try to avoid red meat and alcohol if it is... That really helps

as madamspud says it sounds like psoriasis you need to be referred to a derm through your gp
will give you the address of a website i am a member of- you can check out to meet other sufferers if you want to and its full of brilliant advice
