For FLORIDA residents or people FAMILIAR with FMLA!!?

I've been sick off and on for over a year. My employer has verbally warned me for calling out. I was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome and Fibromyalgia recently. I am seeing doctors about every 1-2 weeks, including ER visits. No one seems to know if this is related to the diagnoses. I have been too sick to work. I was going to ask for FMLA which under my employers guidelines, I qualify for intermittend FMLA.

I haven't asked the MD that diagnosed me because he has been down playing my symptoms and it makes me uncomfortable to ask. Call me niave and gullable. I don't know.

Other MD's have told me to get a 2nd opinion and that it doesn't matter what the diagnosis is, if I'm too sick to work, I'm covered, but it's unpaid. Which is fine.

Has anyone ever taken intermittent FMLA? Was it hard to get?

Hi there I'm not writing about the FMLA but I am writing to your regarding your Doctor and how lightly he treats your symptoms. You need to get on the net and find a Doctor or Clinic that deals with Fibromyalgia it is recognized a disorder now and you should be taken seriously. I'm concerned that your Doc won't fill out your forms correctly and that could cost you in the long run. Also the NIH has a great description of Sjogrens' Syndrome you should look it up as well. Health is the most important thing and I wish you the best but really hunt for help in your area for Fibro. Good luck

Your not going crazy, trust your gut instincts.Fight for your health I mean really fight. It's really the most important thing you can do, no good health, no nothing, so you GO girl and get the help and RESPECT you deserve. And best of luck, I'll pray for you. Report It

The FMLA does not apply to all employers, or to all employees. The FMLA only covers employers with 50 or more workers, who have employed 50 or more workers for at least the past 20 weeks. It also applies to public agencies, regardless of the number of employees, and to elementary and secondary schools, both public and private. The FMLA only applies to employees who have worked for a covered employer for a minimum of 12 months, although these 12 months do not need to be consecutive. Additionally, the employee must have worked at least 1,250 hours for the employer during the previous 12 months, at a site where the employer has 50 or more employees within a 75-mile radius.

I have taken intermittent FMLA. pending that you fit all of the criteria it is very easy to obtain.
at my company they had me speak to my HR representative. we then called a number so i could register for FMLA and they could ask me a few questions. then your claim is looked over and if you qualify your immediately covered. if i recall i gave them my drs numbers and they did all the paperwork with my doctors and i didnt have to do a thing.

when you are on FMLA it basically covers your butt so you dont lose your job. you are able to call out and you dont have to explain why you are not coming in because it has already been dealt with. good luck!
