Sinusitis, allergies or cold?

My 3.5yr old has allergies and for a few days now he has had a yellowish junk from his nose, been eating less, and typical sniffle/sneezes. However he has been doing the typical kid stuff. I have been giving him claritin but to no improvement. How can i tell if its just allergies, spring cold or sinusitis?

Oh and i almost forgot to add that he does have mild reflux.

He needs some sudafed for the congestion. Call your doc to ask what dose he recommends for you son and then go get some from the pharmacy. Also mention his other symptoms when you talk to his nurse in case they feel he needs to be seen in the office.

sounds like a cold. if he gets a fever or doesn't get better in the next 4 days, take him to the doctor.. good luck

If it's allergies it will probably only happen at certain times. Does he sneeze more outside or inside? Around certain smells?

Sinusitis is when you have pressure in your nose. He probably doesn't have that unless he's been complaining of his "nose hurting." If he is still playing and outside he probably doesn't have that.

It's either just a cold or sinus infection. If it was allergies the claritin would help. Also, you have clear mucus when allergies are bothering you. Coloured mucus is a sign of infection.

If is just allergies, I would give him Benadryl or check with his doctor to see what else u could give him over the counter. However, if he shows signs of a fever, then he has some sort of infection. He may need antibiotics, but if it doesn't seem to bad, I would let it run its course and just make sure he drinks plenty of fluids to drain everything out. Sudafed will help dry out that nose. He may have to take medicine seasonally for allergies-ask his doctor.

It doesn't sound like allergies
it sounds like a sinus infection, look at the back of his throat (if he'll let you ) and see if it's red from nasal drainage, if he's eating less his throat might be raw from the yucky things drippign down and see if he snot is brownish on top of yellowish if so call and ask for an apt, so you can get antibiotics.. I get at least 2 sinus infections per year.
Usually with a cold the boogers are clear or green and they just want to do less activities

generaly if it is yellow it is a sign of an infection..he probably has a mild sinus infection, you should consider taking him to your pediatrician just incase.
