Is shortness of breath normal when...?

I recently quit using smokeless tobacco products and have been having shortness of breath and more specifically taking full deep breaths... I have trouble getting over that hump where you feel your lungs are full.

Congratulations for making the decision to quit! I smoked for too many years and when I quit I had a lot of trouble getting that full lung of clean, refreshing, oxygenated air that you are referring to. These are some things that I have found helped to be able to breathe again:

(1)Breathing exercises, particularly exhaling to the count of ten and inhaling to the count of 5 (through my nose) for several rounds, several times a day.... sometimes it might feel like you will die of suffocation, but just hang in there.

(2)Diffusing and inhaling pure, unadulterated essential oils. I know that this sounds kind of flakey, but really, essential oils are highly concentrated chemical compounds... it often requires a whole plant or more to produce (through distillation) a single drop of oil. Essential oils are the most powerful part of the plant and have been used medicinally to kill bacteria, fungim and viruses for thousands of years. If I were you I would get hold of some pure, unadulterated (meaning not distilled with solvents) peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils. Distill them in a cool-air diffuser near your bed, and in other rooms during the day. Rub them on your chest. Inhale them straight from the bottle. This will both kick-start your lungs and heal them. But don't use inferior (cheap) essential oils... they won't work and they could create an even more toxic situation. Go here to check out the "real" organic, pure, unadulterated oils: http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk

(3)Try the energy therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique to easily and quickly free up any negative emotional blocks that are contributing to your respiratory difficulties. To download the free Get Started Package go to http://tinyurl.com/yh5zhu, or if you want to dive in right away by purchasing the inexpensive instructional DVDs click here>> http://tinyurl.com/ycwle8 Read the testimonials on this site and you will know how effective this energy therapy is.

(4)Turn over a leaf for 2007-- hang with people who don't use any noxious substances. Find an exercise that is gentle to your recovering lungs and do it with a friend. Yoga is good. Eat largely from raw, ripe, juicy, organic, fresh fruit and vegetables to get those antioxidants repairing the cells in your respiratory organs so you can fully breathe again.

(5)Get the rest you need to heal. Remember that 1 hour of sleep before midnight is equal to 2 after midnight, so try to go to bed early while you are in recovery.

Have a Healthy, Merry Christmas!

All the best!

Never smoked. Dont plan to smoke. Don't hang out with too many smokers.

I imagine, though, that even smokeless tobacco affects these things; if not the withdrawals probably do.

I'd ask a doctor, if you're worried about it... it could always be something else, but all things considered, if it happened to me I'd probably wait a few days and see what happened.

I would go see a doctor for sure, but it I think you may be suffering from slight with drawl from the lack of nicotine and the many other addictive additives in tobacco of all forms. Just a note, most people use less than 50 % of their lungs capacity. Tobacco users use even less because the nicotine relaxes their muscles which make the lungs inflate, the heart beat and so on.

depnds on how many years you have been smoking that smokeless stuff. the thing is, it all causes emphysema, lung cancer, bronchitis. smoking really weakens our lungs and before we know it, we already have the signs and symptoms. seek consult with your pulmonologist. submit for a chest x-ray to find
out what is really in your lungs.

ask specialists

Nope! shortness of breath can be a symptom of many problems.
I would suspect possible pneumonias conditions. I am not a doctor but obviously if condition persists find one and ask him the same question!
