Electric shock in my tooth?? |
Every couple of weeks, I get this electric shock feeling in one of my teeth. It doesn't hurt, just feels like an electric shock. lol no, I don't chew on foil !!! You must have had a tooth filling or crowning in the past. It happens when the thin layer of the filling is exposed or damaged. It will not effect your tooth as long as you can bear the electric shocks. The shock will happen when any metal e.g. fork, spoon or for that matter foil touches your tooth. If you can afford it then better check it with your dentist. you wouldn't happen to be chewing on foil when this happens.. would you? could it be tooth sensitivity? Does the tooth have an amalgam filling ? Its a irritaion of the nerve root probably secondary to an infection Usually, an electric shock feeling is from you biting slightly incorrect on a tooth. The tooth usually has a filling, where the surface anatomy is different from the original. Therefore, when you bite, the tooth will contact in a different position. This occurs more often in metal (amalgam) fillings. Another possible cause is from you wearing down you teeth (from grinding), again causing the surface to be different. The next time you see your dentist, explain the situation and he/she can do a bite adjustment (if it bothers you that much). Otherwise, usually it will go away over time. |
