What is shock?

you know when they say he's suffering shock what does that mean for example getting shot then shock

Shock is the state of inadequate tissue perfusion. Basically, this means that an inadequate amount of oxygen is making it into and carbon dioxide making it out of the cells. In particular, hypovolemic shock is caused by a volume loss, for example heavy bleeding.

As the body begins to lose blood, it tries to compensate. The body tries to maintain its cardiac output to ensure the body's tissue is getting the O2 it needs. To do this, it starts to increase the heart rate. Also, the body will start to shunt blood away from peripheral appendiges and towards the vital organs. This causes the skin to become cool & clammy. Eventually, there will not be enough blood to adequately oxygenate the brain which will cause the person to have an altered mental status. These signs are all apart of the first stage of shock known as compensated shock, the state when the body is compensating for the blood loss.

The next stage is decompensated shock. At this point the blood pressure begins to drop. No matter how fast the heart beats, there simply is not enough blood to maintain pressure. Also, the heart muscle tends to start to weaken at this point, and the heart rate will sometimes slow way down compounding the problem. The person will generally be unconscious at this point.

The last stage of shock is irreversible shock. It's difficult to tell when a person has moved from decompensated to irreversible, but basically this just means that there has been so much organ damage due to lack of oxygen that the person can not be saved.

Witnessing a major auto accident does not put someone in a state of hypoperfusion (shock). It may give them some sort of psychological trauma, but is completely unrelated to shock.

it means your body starts to shut down, your temp falls, your heart slows and you are getting ready to die.

Shock is the body's reaction to an acute condition that is going on in the body. It is a term used to describe the body's reaction to the traumatic event. It is when your body is not getting enough blood supply to the vital organs and there are different types of shock- cardiac shock, septic shock , to name a few. It is a very serious condition and needs immediate medical condition and can lead to death if not addressed immediately.

for example : like your email id is heck & you are very upset. this is shock.

Shock is when some one has had a severe injury, resulting in loss of blood, and or other body fluids such as diarrhoea, vomiting and severe burns. Or they may have witnessed a major accident.

Shock is life threatening
Involved in a trauma
Causes
* blood loss
external / internal bleeding
* fluid loss
severe burns, diarrhoea, vomiting
* damage to the heart
heart attack
* decreased blood pressure
spinal cord injury
severe pain
infection
poisoning
* mental trauma (e.g.. Witness Serious Accident).

Signs and symptoms
Pale
face
fingernails
lips
Cold, clammy skin
Usually weak, rapid pulse
Rapid breathing
Faintness or dizziness
Nausea.

Shock management
DRLABCH - see note
Reassure victim
Seek medical aid urgently
Control severe bleeding (if present)
Manage burns and fractures (if present)
Loosen clothing
Maintain normal body warmth
No food / drinks
Raise victim鈥檚 legs above level of heart (unless fractured).

Note;
DRLABCH = Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing, Compressions, Hemorrhage.

Hope this helps
