Is anyone qualified to answer about sexual health?

my girlfriend is complaining about swollen glands around her groin. SHe is generally run down and tired and also has some flu like symptoms. We wear protection and have done for at least 6 months. She is worried that she has an STD after our doctor said she did not know what it was and reffered her to the sexual health clinic. I'm now panicking. Anyone shed any light to what this is?

she had a smear around 1 year ago and nothing came up. We had been sexually active not using contraception for a year before this. Would anything show up after all this time?!

Just because the glands that are swollen are in her groin, does not automatically make it an STD. She should go to the clinic by all means, but I would be angry with the doctor for not looking at other causes. Swollen glands anywhere are generally a sign of fighting infection, I would have thought a blood test would ahve been a good start.

glandular fever?

it could be herpes looking at this...

swollen glands...... herpes, or genital warts

I'm not a professional and if the doctor said she doesn't know, that's even more scary. But you said she's getting feverish symptoms. Perhaps it's not something that originated in your girlfriend's vagina. Maybe it really is a flu that is attacking all her glands. Check her throat and see if those glands are swollen. See if there are any other pains. The swollen glands generally are a symptom of something more wide spread and your body is fighting the infection.

Glands usually swell up when you have an infection. Go with her to the clinic for support, she may well find out she has been worrying needlessly. The sooner she has it sorted the better. The clinic is there to help you and the staff will be very understanding.

dont worry .check with another doc. it must b infection which will clear off after suitable medication

Your doctor said she did not know?!!!! I would get a new doctor! Did the doc take any bloodwork? If you have been using protection EVERY time YOU probably do not have anything to worry about. As for your girlfriend.....she might . I would just wait for the answer and not get too worried because it's probably just a flu virus and if the doctor would have done bloodwork like most doctors do you would know right now.

HIV infection:
Any symptoms of illness may occur, since infections can occur throughout the body. Special symptoms relating to HIV infection include:
* Sore throat
* Mouth sores, including candidal infection
* Muscular stiffness or aching
* Headache
* Diarrhea
* Swollen lymph glands
* Fever
* Fatigue
* Rash of various types, including seborrheic dermatitis
* Frequent vaginal yeast infections
Note: At the time of diagnosis with HIV infection, many people have not experienced any symptoms.
Consult Genito-urinary Medicine (GUM) clinic.

Swollen glands are usually a sign of an infection and is the bodies natural defense to prevent further spread of any infection, high temperature and lethargy are also signs of an infection.
The lymph system has glands all over the body and it is not always the case that the swelling is local to the infection.

My advice is simple STOP WORRYING as this can not change anything! Get to another doctor and ask for a second opinion. Blood test need to be done ASAP to help diaganose what is wrong then antibiotics or relevent treatment can be given.

No one on a website can tell you what is wrong without the whole full facts in front of them. so people telling you you've got aids, HIV etc are only making you worry even more.

SO go and see another doctor ASAP before your clinic appointment, Comfort and reassure your partner, do not alarm her and get the facts before you go any further.

GOOD LUCK!

u must be worried sick after some of the answers you have had.go to see if different doctor,or go 2 a family planing clinic.don,t come to any conclusions until u have concrete evidence off a medical professional.hope this helps.and good luck 2 u and your girlfriend.

I had the same symptoms a few years ago, and my ex-girlfriend was cheating on me, so I thought I had something(and so did the doctor).
I found out later that I had Lyme disease(and possibly tonsillitis--bacteria spreading from tonsils to rest of body). I'm not saying that she has what I had... it just means that she has an infection somewhere and not necessarily from there...

short answer: it's possible but not necessarily.

Good luck to the both of you

Run down, tired - fatigue

Does she have any other symptoms in Miriam Brazel's list

Ask her to do the on line hormone balance tests.

Has she had a change of birth control pill in the past 6 months? has she had reason to be stressed?

yes doctor spock

You need to take stock of yr relationship

If the 2 of you are only active with each other, then you shouldnt reall be passing stds around... unless of course one of you is roving.

Get yourself checked, also as she may have done the dirty on you- It only takes 1 encounter with a STD to catch it.
Most sexually transmitted diseases can be avoided by practicing safe sex. Failing that, early diagnosis and treatment will usually result in a cure.

i dont think anyone is qualified enough on here to answer just go to the clinic...good luck and dont sweat
