To get a sexual health checkup is it confidential (17 years old)?

I'm 17 years old and my girlfriend and I have sexual activity. However, lately I have been feeling unwell...down there...and I was trying to get a checkup. However, is this checkup confidential?

All check ups are confidential unless you give consent for your information to be discussed with anyone else. No matter who pays or who's insurance you are under. Yes, by law some diseases have to be reported to the department of health but just for statics no your personal info. If you find that anyone is giving your info out this is against HIPAA laws and is serious offense. Go without worry.

YES ALL DOCTOR VISIT ARE.

Call the health clinic & ask them. Be careful; some publish the test results. Seriously.

It should be as long as YOU and not your parents are paying the bill.

I hope you told your girlfriend you are not feeling well "down there". Because, she is probably not feeling well "down there also".

Could you just restrain yourself until you are grown and can pay your own medical bills and have actually paid attention in sex education class.

Well, assuming you live in North America (I can't speak for anywhere else), any visit to a doctor is confidential, by law.

Having said that, there are some jurisdictions that may legally require the doctor to report some things to government agencies, such as AIDS or other highly contagious diseases.

If you live in America is is. You are a patient and the doctor is bound to keep their silence and privacy with their patients.

yes, the doctor is required by law to keep all your medical info private, even if your parents are paying. if you are afraid that they will see the charge on the bill then go to planned parenthood and they will give you (and your girlfriend) a low cost or free std check that they cannot tell your parents about. go to www.plannedparenthood.org to find one near you. make sure you get your gf checked too, because if you have something she probably does especially if you haven't been wearing a condom.

It can be, but not if you use mommy and daddy's insurance card. Go to a free clinic. Tell the doc, right off, that your parents would flip out if they learned you were sexually active. Unless you are having sex with an adult, he doesn't need to report you. Unless you have syphillus, then BY LAW he HAS to report it to the local community health nurse.

Some states require STD's to be reported to the Health Department, so make sure you find out if it's confidential before testing.
