Male Sexual Assault?

My first week of college I was sexually assaulted from what I believe was a male. Nothing of this magnitude has ever happened to me. I feel that all of my dignity and sense of security has been taken away. Being a male I felt like I should have been able to protect myself from harm. Instead I was in shock and felt paralyzed while getting attacked. I really want to tell my parents but it is just incrediably difficult. I want to leave this particular college so I can move back home and commute to a different college. I feel bad that my parents paid a lot of money to send me here and now I want to leave because of this incident. Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you,
Lucas

A lot of men are afraid to come forward after a sexual assault. Like you, many men who have been sexually assaulted feel as if their masculinity has been compromised, and they feel too ashamed to come forward. But yes, men are subject to sexual assault, too, and it does hurt them physically and psychologically.

What you need to emotional and psychological support. Go to your campus' health center and look for a counselor who can help you through the psychological trauma from this attack. A good counselor will help you sort your feelings and help you move forward with your life. You don't have to tell your parents the details, and you don't have to tell them until you are ready to say something.

Please be strong and get help. It is okay to get help.

And if you can identify your attacker, please contact the police so that your assailant can be brought to justice. You don't want this sick man to hurt anyone else.

NOTE TO THOSE OF YOU WHO TOLD LUCAS TO TALK TO HIS PARENTS: I know you all mean well, but a lot of people attach stigma and stereotypes to victims of sexual assault. Ideally, we'd want people, especially our loved ones, to understand the pain and suffering we go through. However, not everyone is so kind to men who have been assaulted. It is likely his parents will love Lucas no matter what, but there is a chance that they could take the news the wrong way and it could backfire on him. The best first step is to find a qualified mental health professional to help sort through all the issues at hand.

You need to tell someone... having this burden on yourself with no one to talk to will just make the pain worse... I am sure that your parents would not even be considering the monetary aspect of the whole situation, they would hopefully just be considering your safety... you may need to tell a counselor or someone at your college, because this needs to stop... this predator needs be caught and put away so that he will not do this to anyone else.. please tell someone and God bless you!

You should talk to your mother or father either or both about it. If not you'll continue living with that event in your mind and it might affect your mental balance later in life. This is an abscess you must pierce.

Ummhh how are you unsure if it was a male or not that assaulted you?

Rape is rape weather it happens to girl or guy. You should go to Police report this creep. I will be hard and painful, but you CAN get through this.
Don't be afraid to reach out for help! If they don't believe you or won't help you -- find someone who will. It may take a while, but you WILL heal. You'll be surprised how many people will be willing to help -- don't give up hope.
I wish you peace and healing Lucas.

You need to tell someone. Tell your mom or dad or both especially if you are close to them. You should not have to go through this alone and have to change schools. You don't say what kind of assault as you don't know if was male or female but either way you can't keep holding all this inside you. If you have a Pastor maybe tell him but tell someone you trust then decide on the school issue, you are young and I'm sure very confused. It isn't your fault you couldn't protect yourself when someone just grabbed you or whatever he /she did to you. Good Luck

鈾? Lucas, so sorry for what you went through. Tell the newspaper and police in the college town, and mention that you want to remain anonymous. Colleges cover this kind of thing up, and it will keep happening until the public becomes more aware.

And tell your parents, too. Just say that you don't want to go into details, but you want them to know that you are refusing to go to this college they paid alot of money to because of a very good reason, or they may get angry and cause you further suffering. You don't have to say anything you don't want to say. But it must be reported by the college as rape so that people can make informed decisions about attending. 鈾?br> ~~~ ~~~ 鈾櫕 鈾櫕 ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
