How is the trauma of rape different from other physical assaults, like a barroom beating?

How and why are sexual assaults different from physical assaults, such as a severe beating from a intoxicated stranger, in their effects on the victims?

This is a serious question with no disrespect intended to victims of any crime.

You are took away from your most basic property : yourself. You body is taken away from your soul...it clearly show you that you are not a human being but an object for single use...
Believe me, it destroy you from inside. Everyday you look yourself in a mirror, you see a failure because you were unable to protect yourself.
The concept of being somebody's toys is really destructing. You have a terrible fear in your soul & your heart....I don't know if it can last forever but it can last years...I can't explain everything you feel because emotions are far away from the words I can use to describe the various feelings.
I don't know if somebody can go through such a thing without being at least temporaly disturbed.

rape is the violation of ones body. we are all sensitive about who we let into where so when someone is forcibly penetrated they have a overwhelming sense of helplessness and violation. bar room beatings are just fights, you get up, clean yourself up and walk away (hopefully) rapes are more personal in nature and rapists take away an individuals sense of security and personal well being.

that is sad

maybe it's because i've never been raped,but,...i don't think it would put THAT big of a trauma on me...it's just how i feel,..i can't explain it
