All of the above can cause PTSD in children. About 30% of people exposed to trauma will develop PTSD. So just because one has lived through trauma, doesn't necessarily mean they will suffer PTSD.

Sexual abuse is the #1 reason for childhood related PTSD. But PTSD can just as easily be cause by a car accident, the death of a loved one, as you mention... physical and emotional abuse. Any kind of trauma you can possibly think of really. It has to do with how that person who experiences it is wired.

With PTSD, the event sort of gets stuck in the fear center of the brain on a constant loop. It can be debilitating depending on the severity.

Any one of those could contribute to PTSD.
