Is my cut infected? Sewage water...?

I have a cut on my leg that got sewage water in it when our basement flooded. It has been a week and it still is open. The cut is also red around the edges. Sometimes it really hurts, but mostly it itches. If it is infected, what should I do?

oh dear, this really should be seen by a doctor. did you clean it after getting out of the water? there are lots of viruses and bacteria there that can cause an infection. that red is an indicatior of infection, as would be swelling, or a yellowish pus seeping from the wound. first, use peroxide. just pour a little at a time and let it bubble, as it really works well to clean the wound. do this several times, prefferably over a sink. after this, use triple antibiotic ointment to coat it well. finally, wrap with a bandage, which should be changed 2-3 times a day, while doing this process each time, as the wound may weep, and old bandages do not pull away the mouisture as well.

Doesnt sound like it is. There would be a discharge of pus. Also you would be feeling like crap. The site would be hot and you would have a fever, that said though with what you describe you should be keeping it clean, dry and covered with something like neosporin

It sounds infected to me. There are all sorts of nasty bacteria in sewage water. If it wasn't infected, it should have scabbed over and started to heal by now. Go to your doctor (or a minor med place, etc) and have it checked out. If it's fine, then you have peace of mind. If it's infected, you'll need antibotics to ensure the infection doesn't spread.

Clean the wound with paroxide. This will foam, and get rid of any dirt in the wound.

Clean the wound with rubbing alcohol. This acts as a disinfectant.

Apply medical tape and sterile gauze then go see a doctor.

If there is sewage, you should go to Urgent Care. You need to get that treated, trust me.
