Where does city water come from?

Does our city water come from the city sewage?

Depends on where you live. Some communities get it from a well some from a lake or river. If you have water towers around the chance is your getting it from a well. I'm not familiar with any one who directly uses waste water to produce drinking water but I'm sure its done. Some places do dump waste water in the same river and lake that they get the water from.

I would think there are pipes underground that lead from either the nearest lake/river -- then it goes to a water treatment plant -- then to your faucet. For instance, the water in Chicago probably comes from Lake Michigan.

the water in your sink comes from local lakes. It is filtered, cleaned, and chlorinated first however. Some treatment facilities even put flouride in the water... just like at your dentist.
It is possible to take your own sewer water, treat it, and then use it to water your yard....you could even drink it too, but I think I'll stick with the professionally treated water.

I'm from south jersey and there are municipalities that use wells, lakes, and reverse osmosis desalination to remove the salt from ocean water.
