How many varieties of illnesses or infections can be contracted through the eyes? (ie. pink eye)?

the field in which i work involves some bio-hazzards such as raw sewage.

There are tons of things that can go wrong with your eyes from allergies to pink eye. There are far too many to list. However, some of the problems that can be cause by outside influences include:
Allergies
Blepheritis (Irritation)
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
Dry Eye Syndrome
Styes
Uveitis (Inflamation of the Uvea)
and many many more.

It is always wise to use protective safety equipment when working with any substance that may be harmful (including raw sewage) There are millions of toxins that can cause serious illnesses. Of course, some eye problems actually have nothing to do with your eye. Last year I got CSF from a cat and it caused acute retinitis in my left eye. Always be as safe as possible.

Definately wear safety goggles and gloves. Raw sewage can expose you to a lot of very dangerous things. Some of which are very nasty. Besides, you really don't want to get sh** in your eyes. That's just way too gross.
