I need some answers on perforated bowel surgery my brother is seriously ill and on a ventilator?

he as been on the ventilator 4 five days now is sedated but will open his eyes when you call his name occassionally we have been told that he is critically ill and there as been no change from when he had the op he has already had 2 kidney transplants previously 2 this could you tell me if this is normal 4 him 2 open his eyes or is this just brain activity also how long does it take for patients to recover from this he has septicemia and is on a filteration machine if he does recover from this what will his quality of life be he also has heart problems too

There are way too many variables for anyone to be able to give you a good answer from the information you gave. I'm an RT & take care of patients on ventilators in the ICU. If you have specific questions, and can share more info, you can email me & I'll try to answer them for you.

I am praying for him, here is my google search. I would contact a group in your area of survivors and family. I hope that will help, take care. Ps the bottom url is a doctor online question forum.
