Does sepsis have permanent damage to the heart?

can sepsis cause the heart to have weakened valves. I was hospitalized for 20 days for 4 bypass heart surgery and sepsi given to me by an unclean catheter, or at least this is what the doctor said. also can it cause mental changes

septicemia u mean???? the hospital should of given u antobiotics for that... septicemia is a poisoning of the blood, it can damage the body..... the question i want to know is, why was a dirty catheter used on urself... either it was left in too long or it was not sterile... the problem with the second one is that all catheters are disposeable as far as i know....
Hope this helps
God bless.

someone above me has just answered the question better than i could lol..... she is right, if treated immediatly with antibiotics then damage will be minimal.... but the question still stands... why was a dirty catheter used....

I think that if the sepsis was treated properly with appropriate antibiotics then any possible damage to the valves would be minimal, so I do not think any permanent damage would occur.

Sepsis is a severe blood infection, introducing a large number of bacteria into the bloodstream. When the number of bacteria in the bloodstream is large enough, endocarditis can develop, even in people who have normal heart valves.
