Sepsis mental health?

My dad was diagnosed with sepsis a few days ago, and when I visted him at the hospital, he was acting unusual. He had a lack of attention and hallucinations.
Was this a case of sepsis or severe sepsis?
Will he return back to normal after he gets better?

Thank you for your feedback,
Today, he 'woke up' for approx 30 minutes, before returning to his delirious state.

Delirium can be due to a severe infection like sepsis. He will return to normal after he gets better.
