My grandmother has sepsis?

And she has diabetes. She has had no sensation in her feet. But the other week she went camping and she has a toe ring. This toes ring cut into her toe, and she didnt feel it. it got so infected that now she is in the hospital and shes in the hospital and they are thinking about amputating. We noticed a rash on her belly and back, and we think she has sepsis. How will this effect her body with her diabetes. I dont know if I trus the people at the hospital as we had to tell them about the rash, because they didnt notice. Is my grandmother in mortal danger??

I am afraid that she is. I believe your analysis is correct. She got bacteria in her system from being outdoors and having the cut on her foot. And having diabetes her body is fragile to begin with. They will give her IV antibiotics and hydrate her for the sepsis. One of your family should be there with her most of the time to monitor what is going on. Don't be shy with your questions. Yes, sepsis is nothing to take likely, talk to her doctor immediately about this.

She could be if the sepsis spreads through her system. Unfotunately because she had diabetis, that affects the way she is able to heal. The hospital should be able to treat the sepsis with antibiotics. There is a chance she could be in mortal danger, but I think here is more of a chance of her losing her toe and or foot. Hospitals are usually pretty good, but the more information you can give the doctors and nurses, the better able they are to treat your grandmother. Don't be afraid to ask questions and give them any information.

she should have blood cultures drawn and started on antibiotics if she is septic. this will greatly affect her healing process due to the fact that she had diabetes. but honestly the rash could come from many things such as yeast in the skin folds, etc. it is good that you noticed the rash and notified some one because it could have appeared suddenly and been easily unnoticed until her bath the next day.

Yes, if she goes into septic shock then she could easily die.

the rash could be a reaction to the antibiotics she is on she may be allergic to that particular one. with her toe that infected i'm sure she is on antibiotics. point it the rash out to the doctor/nurses. not in mortal danger due to the rash they will probally change the meds and the rash will disappear.
