Is sepsis in the body caused by leukemia or herpes simplex virus?

Leukemia does not cause sepsis, but it can make a person very vulnerable to sepsis when the disease causes white blood cells to form abnormally and lose their ability to fight infections. Chemotherapy to treat leukemia can also kill white blood cells and virtually eliminate a patients ability to fight infections.

Any type of infection could cause sepsis, but viruses such as herpes simplex are not a common cause.

Sepsis is usually caused by staphylococcus, pneumococcus, or other bacteria normally found in or on the skin, lungs, or digestive tract in healthy people. The bacteria takes over when the immune system is suppressed.

Sepsis can be caused by anything for a UTI that has gone septic to Pelvic inflammatory disease. Any infection that gets out of control can go septic and get into the blood stream.

The short answer is no.

Sepsis = a severe illness caused by overwhelming infection of the bloodstream by a toxin producing bacteria.

People may get a pneumonia or UTI or skin infection etc... etc... and if the infection spreads one gets systemically infected and septic.

You may be more suseptible to infection if you have leukemia or are undergoing chemotherapy.

No sepsis is not directly caused by the leukemia or HSV.

As the prior respondents indicated it is caused by a massive infection that has entered the blood stream.
