How does full blood count help to identify sepsis?

How does full blood count help to identify sepsis?

A CBC (complete blood count) includes a White Blood Cell count. In increased number of WBCs can indicate infection. The kind of WBCs can tell if the infection is viral or bacterial. A better test for sepsis is a blood culture, but it takes much longer to get the results so a CBC is performed and antibiotics are given much sooner if it looks like sepsis. Once the blood culture is done and if sepsis is confirmed, then the doctors can decide whether to switch to a different antibiotic or continue giving the current one.

what we r looking for specifically in blood counts r the total leukocyte or white cell count. as is common knowledge they r they the firstline of soldiers in our body. so whenever there is any kind of sepsis/infection i.e whenever external bacteria enter our body the white cells, combat them and in the process multiply in number. so an eleveted white cell count usually indicates some kind of infective process going on in our body. also delving a bit deeper and knowing exactly whichy type of white cell is elevated helps us in further deducing what sort of infection we r dealing with.
