Depression, senility, or both?

Lately my grandmother has been acting very strange. She seems extremely scatterbrained and can't even make tea without messing it up somehow (ie. yesterday she was so out of it she put half a cup of sugar in her tea and forgot to put the tea bags in) She says she has been very depressed lately and doesn't even want to get out of bed most of the time. Do you think the depression could be causing the wierdness or that she is getting some kind of senility? I'm very worried.

my grandmother is about 75 and in pretty good health. i'm not looking for a diagnoses, just though maybe someone had some experiences with these symptoms.

She needs to be evaluated by a Doctor to rule out physical problems then go from there. You can't get a diagnosis on yahoo answers. You have asked this question before. You can worry or you can encourage her to see a professional.
Even if someone has experience with someone with these symptoms it may not be the same thing!

First off, well done for caring so much about your grandmother.
I'm not sure her age or health, but senility can definitely be to blame. My grammy acts totally flaky like that and was diagnosed with mild dementia.
What concerns me is the not wanting to get out of bed. That sounds like depression. And that could be medicated.
Make a doctor appointment for a full physical and go with her. Maybe you could take her out to lunch that day as well to cheer her up?
Good luck :)

Whether one is young, mid age or old, we will encounter depression for in many ways. But what is critical is the degree of the depression and this can be visible as what you seen your grandmother at that moment.

I would suggest that either you or your family members have a talk with her to find out whether she has any thing in her mind that is troubling her.

However if all of you are not convinced with her reply, perhaps ir's better to bring to consult a doctor for a review.

Even though if the doctor do not find any abnormality with her, at least there is nothing to be worried about.
