The breath also may have a "garlic-y" smell.

Selenium - in high doses - is very toxic on the body. It is a heavy metal. It is used in skin treatment, and as a dietary supplement for livestock.

I believe that selenium comes from rock which has broken down into soil. Plants absorb the Se and animals eat the plants.

We, naturally, eat both the animals and plants. Selenium is metabolized by the liver. It removes the free Se from the blood but not before causing kidney problems and heart damage.

Since it goes through the kidneys, I would suspect it is excreted in the urine. I might be wrong though. Haven't thought about it much.

I do know that 400 mg (mcgs?) per day can become toxic.
