I have a question relating to supplements.?


I take a combination of multivitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Which vitamins and minerals enhance the effect of others, and which should be taken apart, or "cancel out" the effects of the other (i.e. iron and calcium prevent absorption of each other if taken at the same time, vitamin e enhances absorption of selenium, etc.)?

Your question tells a lot...it takes a lot of study to learn about supplements. To start with, read the label on each bottle of the item you're taking.
Some will advise you to take with water, or before meals, or with food, etc. That's your first guide. Certain medications advise the person taking it to combine with or stay away from certain foods or supplements.
Two good books are:
1. Complete Book of Vitamins and Minerals, by the Editors of Consumer guide.
2. The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies, by Mark Stengler, N.D. (The Natural Physician). Published by Bottom Line.

The Natural Physician covers many herbs, vitamins, minerals and homeopathic remedies. It gives recommended doses and recommendations for treating various physical complaints, as well as for staying healthy.

If you want to look for bargains in books, try amazon.com. You can search by category and view prices on new and used books. I just bought a "used" book, the publishers price was $24.99. I paid 38cents + shipping of $4.97. The book looks like new and is just what I wanted.

Try searching for books at amazon.com, or check out your library. If you find a book there that you like and would like it for your own, you'll then know what to search for at amazon.com.

Most American diets are not deficient in vitamins or minerals.

Take a multivitamin and scrap the rest. Eat a variety of foods, plenty of fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables.

Get what you need through your diet. Pills are a real poor substitute.
