Is it possible to overdose on Vitamins? |
I found 7 vitamins to take to keep skin clear and am wondering if I can overdose.. they are...Vitamin, A, B COMPLEX, C, E, ZINC, MAGNESIUM AND SELENIUM and an Omega 3... are these ok to take???of course I will follow the recomended dosage but am curious is an overdose is possible.,..HELP Vitamins A and D can both build up in your system because they are fat soluble [stored in the colon] yet both are necessary. Within recommended dosages is best. It's when people think if one is good three must be better that they get into trouble. B Complex is a good choice, especially if under stress or physically active. E is excellent, too. Even if fat soluble it's not the problem A and D can be when taken in high doses, long term. Zinc is good for dry skin, stretch marks, all sorts of skin issues and if you can take half in morning and half in evening it's better [tabs can be cut] to balance effects. if you take too many, you will get the runs...so your body will tell you otherwise, any excess will go down the toilet. You can pretty much O.D. on anything. Did you hear about the woman who died after winning a competition to see who could drink the most water....put on by a radio station? Just be careful...moderation. YES!! Talk to a pharmacist - you can get too many of the fat-soluable vitamins - B's and Vit. E It isn't easy to overdose, but your body will store these and eventually your liver will become very unhappy with you and you'll likely get feeling pretty nasty, plus you'll break out worse as your body responds to being under stress. I'm not totally sure about the rest. As for the others, see if you can talk to someone in a natural health food store - Omega 3's are fats from usually fish sources and they and primrose oil, etc. make some people's acne worse! Vitamin "A" stays in your liver for two years.Or so I thought.Any good thing can be a bad thing if too much is taken.BTW,Selenium is toxic in large doses.Sleep easy. you can overdose on any of them, but the side effects are not serious. Beta carotene overdose just turns your skin bright orange, so it's really quite funny It's possible to overdose on practically anything, even water as someone else already pointed out. You should be fine with the recommeded dosages as long as you aren't taking any other products that contain the same vitamins....to be on the safe side, you can always ask your doctor (that's what I would do if I was concerned about it). i OD on vitamin C back in high school, even too much of a good thing can be dangerous If you take vitamins your body will take what it needs and the rest goes out by urine, sweat etc... you follow the dosage. Hypervitaminosis is possible though. |
