My son had a postive monospot test. What are the chances that it is a false positive?

He does not have an fatigue. His symptons are hives and one swollen lymph node. He is an athlete and is in great shape. He does take L-Argine, Selenium, Usana body rox, and other supplements. We were told you could have a false postive if you have too many proteins in your system. However, his dad had hodgkins so... I'm really worried.

What does the test result mean?
A positive result in the Monospot test, together with symptoms of mononucleosis, are the basis for a diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis. In addition to a positive reaction on the Monospot test, an infected person has a higher white blood cell count, with a higher than usual number of atypical lymphocytes. Heterophil antibodies decline after the fourth week of illness, and the Monospot test will become negative as the infection resolves.

Hodgkins is NOT inherited.

If your doctor was concerned he can always remove the enlarged gland for examination(biopsy)

Have the doctor order EBV IgG/IgM
