Seizures..?

Ok well a few hours ago , my dad had a seizure. He was sitting on the couch with my mom looking through some old Navy stuff (he's retiring on Thrusday) and he said he didn't feel well. My mom asking him if anything was wrong and he shook his head. Then his head fell forward and his eyes rolled in the back of his head. His arms went up (like he was lifting weights) and his legs stuck out. He was holding a screw driver I guess because it was in his hands. I was scared out of my mind. My mom told me to call 911 it rang a few times , but then he came back. I was crying and my mom was hovering over him. But the odd thing was, he claims he doesn't even remember it happening. Is that normal? Or a sign of something bad? He doesn't want to go to the hospital; he claims he feels fine now. But I'm terrified it will happen again. What should I do (I'm only 14).

He had Lasik eye surgery a few years ago and during the opperation , he had a seizure. And when he was on deployment, he looked into a bright light and had convulsions twice and had to be flown off the ship. I don't know if the light is related because in this case we were just sitting in the living room watching TV.. Any help would be VERY much appreciated..

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's seizure problem.

I have seizures, and in my experience in diagnosing the possible causes, they gave me an EEG (electroencephalogram) which consisted of placing electrodes on my head and chest and measuring the brain waves. During the test, they tested to see if I have seizures while watching a flickering light...I did not, but it seems like your dad may have this ailment. It's called "photosensitive epilepsy" and it's triggered by any bright, flashing or flickering light. I don't know if you remember, but a few years ago, japanimation was blamed for causing seizures in little kids with the constant flickering it contains.

Try this page below (my source), it may help you and and your family understand what happened to your dad. Best of luck to you and yours.

I think your dad is suffering from post war syndrome. The seizures are all psychological!

it would help if he would speak with his commanding officer or psychologist.
