Seizures in 4 yrs old?

My 4 yrs old has had 3 seizures it happens only when he has a high fever which is not control quickly. What causes the fever something he eats, weather? The doctor told me if he turn 5ys old and he doesnt have a seizure than it is likely he will not have another one. Please help me?

Most parents worry that fever will do some damage to the child. children can have seizures if their temperatures go above 105 degrees. Few children actually do experience what doctors call febrile seizures, which occur in less than 4% of children under five years of age. Administering fever-reducing drugs has NEVER been shown to reduce the incidence of seizures. Also, seizures are usually caused by a rapid rise in temperature, not from a high fever as some believe. febrile seizures do not cause any kind of brain damage in children, so dont worry millie =]

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!

ASK the doctor these questions. God help you if you're going by advise on here.

Fever is usually caused by some kind of germ - either viral or bacterial. It's the body's first line of defense against an illness. Weather or food does NOT cause a fever.

Febrile seizures (fever seizures) are often caused by a quick spike in fever, not so much the degree - unless it's over 105 F. That's why it's important to control his low-grade fevers.

The high fever causes the seizure. My daughter had that happen when she was 3. It rose quickly before we could get her home and she seized. Next time quickly give a liquid baby aspirin if this has been approved by the Dr. Next a tepid bath. You can also apply ice packs to the body, making sure not to burn the child. This seizure is called a fibril seizure. Treat any illness at the onset to reduce incidence of high fever.

High fevers in small children can cause seizures. My son had the rotavirus in 2005 which caused him to have three seizures.
My son's seizures continued after the virus was gone.
Rule is that your first seizure is free, anymore than one and a doctor may begin to wonder what else is happening. My son
after his third seizure had some tests done. Some brain scans
and an EEG. He has been on meds since 5/5/05. Sometimes
a child's body grows faster than their brains, and thus causes seizures. With my son, he is being medicated for two years.
And at the end of this two year period, if he has had no seizures on the meds, then he will be taken off the meds.
Currently, due to research, he has a 60% chance of not seizuring again, but he will be at risk for his whole life.
