Seizures and vision?

My 8 year old daughter has occipital lobes seizures. she has has them for about 4 years now. she take trileptal for them and have them controlled. Just lately she says her vision is blurry when she looks at a distance. Can the seizure cause her vison to diminish, or is just natural near-sightness?

Three of the common adverse effects of Trileptal are nystagmus (involuntary rhythmic eye movements. There are a number of types of nystagmus), diplopia (double-vision) and abnormal vision. Call her doctor in the morning and report this but don't discontinue the Trileptal until the doctor instructs you to. That could be dangerous.

Possibilty but I would be more suspicious of the medication. Check the side effects call doctor.

I would take her in to see the doctor. Could be side effects from her meds or it could be something else happening. Better to be safe than sorry.

I am quite sure that repeated seizures can cause damage to vision but to get a definitive answer you need to talk to her treating doctor. You can also get really good info if you Google! Just type in the name of your daughters condition & it will bring up heaps of sights that will provide lots of info. When you enter some of these sites you may be able to type in the specific info you are after & get your answers from there. Good luck! I hope you find the answers you need for your little angel.
