Seizures dont show on EEG?

My husband has had 'complex partial' seizures for many years and convulsive seizures for the last few. He has seen several doctors and no one can figure out why. The doctor said nothing showed on the EEG as if to say they didnt exist. He gets both kinds sporadically with no clear warning signs about every 4-6 weeks. He also happens to be leagally blind, but it doesnt seem to be related, since that was genetic since birth. Why wouldnt this show on an EEG?

We've had really bad luck with doctors in our town. However, I've heard of a great specialist in another city. I'm just wondering, do people usually know why they started getting them? And why doesnt it show on the EEG? Is this weird?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I know someone with severe epilepsy. Its never shown up on a single EEG. The thing with EEGs is that they have to "catch" the problem. One possibility is trying a 24 hour EEG to see if that helps. There is something called a psychological seizure where people just think they are having seizures, but that is pretty unlikely (one sign of that is if eyes close during siezures since eyes usually, but not always, remain open during siezures). Don't let someone tell you something itsn't there or is in his head without very good evidence. I would see other specialists. Seizures can usually be controlled with medications, low carb diet, or even vegas nerve stimulators. There are also seizure dogs. If your husband is legally blind this might be even more viable. A lot of times dogs are able to sense a seizure before it occurs and makes sure the owner is safe (or the person can take meds if they respond quickly enough). Since he has progressed to tonic clonics one thing to watch out for if he stops breathing during seizures and the duration of the tonic cloncis if that does occur. A very rare type of seizure, a static seizure, can sometimes happen where someone doesn't come out of a siezure and if they stop breathing during them that is pretty dangerous. But that is very rare.

,We have found that seizures many times are caused by Parasites. There are over 150 different human species. They can cause blindness, paralysis, deafness and destroy different parts of your body. They eat the nutrients in the food you eat and then leave their waste inside of you. We had a lady who had cancer and seizures. the doctors told her she had about two months to live. We got her on supplements and she is still alive three years later, and feeling better every day.

Your husband should have his blood levels (seizure drug) checked as well as a CBC. Sometimes seizure medication can reach high/low levels and cause "nonepileptic seizures". I also have temperal lobe epilepsy with 2ndary generalized seizures. Too add to this I may be having "non-epileptic seizures. These can be of a psychological (a persons way of dealing with stress) and/or physiological nature (physical problem not related to electrical activity in the brain). Either seizure is very hard for anyone including a DR to tell the difference. What can happen is his body starts to "reject" itself (whitecount goes up and something happens to platelets mimicking LUPUS, it is called drug induced LUPUS which is an autoimmune disorder that can cause nonepileptic seizures). Low blood sugar can also cause seizures, there are so many things that can cause all types of seizures I would get 2+ opinions. Try to watch and see what he is doing when seizures happen. My seizures get worse after hard exercise when my heart rate goes way up. I also have an irregular heart beat. Good luck Pat
