Seizures? doctor's please?

My friend got hit in the head with a softball ( she's the pitcher: 13 years) she now has seizures often the doc. changed her meds. to a higher prescriptoin this week. Tonight we went to a party and there was a flashing strobe light, she also didnt eat all day. Is it normal to have a seizure at a place like that???--also why is she having seizures if you can tell me??

Hello.

Neurology is hardcore... And there's a TON of reasons why people can have seizures. As you indicated, trauma can cause them and so can other stimulus (such as flashing lights). Blood levels of nutrients (such as glucose and electrolytes) can cause people to have seizures too.

So if she already has a history of seizures, she's on meds, she hasnt eaten all day and there's flashing lights all over the place - then she is greatly increasing her risk of having an episode.

There's a reason she's on her meds.

Regards,
Ryan

strobe lights bring on seziures in normal people let alone ones prone to seziures, dont ever take her around lights like that.

I know that strobe lights CAN set off seisures in some people & also video games can too.

im no doctor but yes its normal

its because the blinking light sends strange messages to the brain, hence why there is a warning on strobe light boxes

Oh my god yes! Your friends doctor did not tell her this? Your friend it sounds like really needs to do some reading and talking to her doctor.
Your friend is not taking care of herself. She needs to start! If she is on meds these are not going to take these away, they will help them to subside.
Dose she have other family members with these? Does she have family members who the other family talks about being "weird". This is how many of us are looked at, is being "weird". We are not weird we just are dealing with a condition that effects our system. Stress on the body. Which means getting hit in the head with something, another kind of accident, flu with a high temperature, medications, genetics, These can also be a sub symptom of another condition, on and on. No one knows why we have these. My boys doctor has written papers upon this very subject, has been leader of the field for a LONG time (why it is so hard to see the guy), he even told us that there is not a pin point reason for these.
A person can have these on one side of the body, or both sides. My youngest throws up, convulses, and stares into space. I throw up fling my arms uncontrollable (at least my last one), usually mine are dots in front of eyes, cant see have to sit down, sometimes I get sick sometimes not. Both of us get really tired!
It is great you are being a great friend!! This is a lonely decease! Many things and places people take for granite epileptics can not do. For instance I go into them when I am in a crowded place that is not ventilated, I do not drink alcohol. I do not dance, if I feel strange I will sit down so I do not fall.
These are real bad for the body and your friend really needs to take care of herself! Stick with her this is a scary thing to go through!

BTW why I brought up the family and if other family thought they weird, is I was doing genealogy, I traced our seizures clear back to my mothers grandmother. She was considered "weird" in our family. I have one aunt who has them and all her kids have them. Others in the family as well....
Best wishes!
