Can tampons cause seizures?

I have a friend who has been having seizures her whole life.. she is on meds, when she has her period she has seizures really bad and she uses tampons. For the other 3 weeks of the month she doesn't have seizures. Is it possible that the tampons cause this???

Very unlikely, particularly given that her seizures have been long term and they worsen with regularity during her monthly cycle.

There is a condition, however, called catamenial epilepsy which worsens during certain times in a woman's menstrual cycle. Although TSS can lead to seizures, if your friend has had siezures throughout her lifetime, and since hitting puberty she has noticed a pattern of increased seizure activity during her cycle, it is more likely the seizure disorder itself, rather than the tampons.

No, it's not possible. It's more likely that her seizures are linked to her menstrual cycle and this is why this occurs.

Her seizures could be caused by the medication she's taking for her period cramps. She should ask her doctor about it. A tampon should be changed about once every 4 hours or sooner and it shouldn't cause any seizures. However if left unchanged for too long, they can cause toxic shock syndrome leading to high fever. Ask her to read the insert inside the tampon box.

Possible Toxic Shock Syndrome from tampons call and talk to a gyne.

She's not sticking the tampons up her nose is she ?

nothing to do with using tampons, just remember to change them every few hours to avoid toxic shock syndrome. Your friend suffers these seizures closer to the time of her mensturation beccause of the overload of hormones and chemical brain activity..poor girl, look after ur friend.

I think the tampons can be contributing to something that may be causing it. Somehow. Tampons are just horrible and women shouldn't use them so much They are very convenient and i still use them once In a blue but I believe women who use tampons also later may get some type some cancer whether it be ovarian, breast, etc.
We take so many risk to our health for convenience including myself.TSS
