Need help with my seizures !?!?!?!?

ok i have epilepcy and i get at least from 3 to 4 seizures a day they told me that there was a soposed diet that can lower the amount of seizures that you have is that true if so what is it ????? and if it isent true is there anything that you can do to dtop or minimize the seizures iv tried medication and the never work i still have the seizure.

Honey, you need to spend some time talking with your Neurologist. If you are looking for holistic remedies, you want to clear them with your Dr. and use them along with whatever medications he/she prescribes. Do NOT do anything holistic without your Dr.'s consent - some herbal remedies will interact badly with medication. Regardless, let your Dr. help you get a handle on things and get the seizures under control. This is a very serious problem that cannot be left untreated - if you feel your Dr. isn't on the right track, you might want to get a 2nd opinion from another Neurologist - a family doctor is not the one you want to deal with on this.

have you considered brain surgery......my uncle had it and he dont get them alot anymore..

are you nervous or irrated or stressed cus those things can make you have more seizures.....good luck

you have to stay on the medication that the doctors give you, dont just take it and expect them to go away, thats now how its supposed to work, its supposed to help with them not cure them..

I wish I could help you, and am very sorry you suffer from such a disorder. All I can recommend is to see a specialist. Good luck.

I think the best thing you can do is talk to your dr about this. A seizure is a big thing... you can't just be taking the advice of just anybody...that is best left to the professionals. If your dr can't help suggest anything, ask if you can be referred to somebody who specializes with that sort of thing. There has to be something that can be done.

My dad once told me that his sister used to have epileptic seizures when she was little.

Good luck.

hey!
sorry to here this, but um go to ur doctor , i think there is no diet but certain foods CAN help. my parents are doctors and i think you should talk to ur doc.

hey i have epilepsy too and sometimes my seizures are minor but just a few days ago i had a huge one in front of friends that was pretty embarassing. but i've had epilepsy since i was in 4th grade (i'm in college now) but i only sought a neurologist in high school. he gave me a medication called "lamictal" (i think that's how it's spelled) and it has reduced my seizures. i can't say i don't have any anymore, but it has definitely gone down. but i have photosensitive epilepsy, so i'm mostly affected by the sun. also lack of proper sleep, stress, and not wearing sunglasses worsens it. who is the "they" you are referring to? i've heard of some foods that can help, but i really think they're myths. go see a neurologist in your area (look up multiple ones and compare what they say according to their credentials). i know you said you've tried medication, and i switched from one to another, so it may just be that THAT medication didn't work for you, but another will. also you need to give it some time for it to take effect. i heard that brain surgery can also help, but it's dangerous. if you have any questions, you can e-mail me at corsica212@yahoo.com
good luck with everything :)

i'm sorry, i don't know the answers, but i was diagnosed with epilepsy too..just know you're not alone. you should try to understand what triggers your seizures and learn to recognize your auras if you have them. many times your dose or type of medication has to be changed if the current ones aren't working, but your questions would really be better answered by a doctor.
p.s. maybe you could look into going to an camp for epileptics. (camp frog in erie is great)

THE DIET IS THE KENTOGENTIC(? SPELLING) DIET, AND/OR THERE IS A DEVICE CALLED THE VNS (VAGAL NERVE STIMULATAR IMPLANTED RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE LEFT CLAVICAL(SHOULDER) (IT ATTACHES TO YOUR VAGUS NERVE THAT'S NEXT TO YOUR VOCAL CORDS)THAT GOES ON AND OFF THROUGHOUT THE DAY, THE NEUROLOGIST WILL PROGRAM IT. ITS USUALLY AND 5-6HOURS SURGERY PROCEDURE START T FINISH. THERE'S MUCH MORE INFO. YOU CAN GET OFF THE WEB OR MYSELF. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I'm not an expert but i have known some epileptic pts that needed the help of neurosurgeon, they target the area of the brain where the seizures are coming from and are able to place a device that decreases the severity and frequency of the seizures...i hope this helps and good luck.

I have had friends that have epilepsy. I know the doctor can prescribe pills for your type of seizures. The doctor can adjust the dosage for you. To prevent lots of seizures Avoid high-risk sports such as skiing and scuba diving. Avoid high-risk jobs that use heavy or fast-moving equipment, or involve heights. Don't get hysterical or stressed out. Eat nutritious foods. Try not to eat to much salt, and do light weight exercising. It could also have to do with your weight, if you are over weight. You should let teachers/coaches, know about your condition. In rare cases doctors do surgery, but this probably isn't for you. Here are some websites to learn more about your condition, and things that are safe for you to do. They also tell more about what you can do to prevent seizures:

PS. Hope everthing works out, I know people that have made it through. They follow all of these things, and they only have seizure like once a year or less. The diet really works. Don't stop taking the pills, they also help alot. Search Yahoo and Google for more info.

i have a cousin who has epilepsy and she found out when she was 14 or 15. her dad is a dr and tried her on a diet that worked great. she dropped like 60 lbs and her siezures were so far and few. DO NOT STOP UR MEDS THOUGH. not withour talking to ur dr. the diet was a high protien diet, similair to the atkins, and very small portions thru the day i remember a little bit but not so sure ask ur doctors though about it and never stop ur meds no matter how well ur doing without talking to ur dr, epilepsy as u know can be serious so dont make any changes without talking to all ur drs 1st.
