Celexa and Seizures?

I have been taking celexa for over a year and a little over a month after I started celexa, I started having seizures and the medication bottle stated that a major side effect is seizures. I have been to three neurologists and none of them believe me when I say I think the celexa is causing them. I had an EEG that showed seizure activity and one that didn't and they are saying it is phycological. I was just wondering if anyone has had this situation happen to them or knows someone who has been through this or if you know anything about this. Thank you

Celexa does have several possible side effects and convulsions are one of the more rare ones. The problem you're facing is that seizure disorders can be very hard to diagnose since there are so many different kinds and so many different causes.

I don't know how old you are but up to 1% of people may have some kind of seizure disorder and a large numbers of cases develop during the teenage years.

It's possible that the neurologists looked at your age, general health and (most importantly) the types of seizure and conditions surrounding them and decided from that info that Celexa wasn't the trigger.

As far as saying the seizures are psychological they may not mean that they thinks you're making it up, but in some cases seizures are caused by combinations of mental things like abnormal sleeping patterns, fatigue, and stress. These are psychological triggers in contrast to physical ones such as flashing lights.

Finally, if you haven't already, I would talk to the doctor that prescribed the Celexa and see if there is something else you could try.

If a neurologist has done an EEG, and everything checked out fine, then I suggest that what you are doing is a form of attention getting behavior. You might want to consider a psychiatrist.
