Can anxiety lead to seizures or seizure type symptoms.? |
I am a 24 year old male, suffer from anxiety and a border line underactive thyroid. Is it possible for anxiety to give me sezure type symptoms? One minute i can be fine, the next i will feel like i have been zapped by something, a shock sensation, my lips will go slightly numb, i am fully coherant when this happens i can move and communicate fine, i just feel detached and have what can only be described as a mind fog when these "funny turns" happen. They also make me feel dizzy and slightly sick. I get other symptoms too like racing heart, chest pain, headaches which vary from localised to all over tension headaches, these symptoms dnt always happen thought. I have been epileptic my entire life and this sounds like a panic disorder rather than seizures. I think it is far more likely that this is a complication of the drugs you are taking. I had a pituitary tumor, and to help me with anxiety they put me on Topamax. I can only use 50mg (25 in morning 25 at night). I was at 75 mg, but it was making my face go numb, like having novacaine on the inside, so I backed down, but then my anxiety came back. It's a balancing act and I hate it, but I live with it. Ask them to check your Pit Gland... yes. Try relaxation techniques. Keep things simple. Do not ask these kind of questions on a lay forum. The term 'seizures' is reserved for epileptiform episodes. Your symtoms suggest panic disorder - which can mimic many physical illnesses. Beta blockers have a part to play in dealing with the physical effects of anxiety - but have little effect on the psychological effects. I very much doubt whether you past drug-using history is significant. Begin by fully educating yourself about anxiety - this goes some way towards managing it. There are many self-help techniques which can make a difference. Be selective about the sources of information you collect - credible sites such as medical or academic sources, not a general layperson's forum like YA |
