Secondhand smoke?

I have never smoked myself. The people that I live with, however, do smoke. I have tried asking for them to quit, and I have explained how it affects me, but I do not see them quitting anytime soon. I have also asked them not to smoke around me, but really that is not realistic. We are around eachother constantly. I know secondhand smoke is bad for my health, but I am not sure of what I should do. What do you think?

Moving is not really an option for me right now.

I would ask them if they mind going outside or in another room when they smoke! If they wont then i would go outside or in another room when they smoke! make sure the house is well ventlated and you get out side for fresh air at regular intervals! passive smoking kills!!!
heres some hard core evidence for you....

Breathing other people's smoke is called passive, involuntary or second鈥慼and smoking. The non-smoker breathes "sidestream" smoke from the burning tip of the cigarette and "mainstream" smoke that has been inhaled and then exhaled by the smoker. Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is a major source of indoor air pollution. Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 chemicals, some of which have marked irritant properties and some 60 are known or suspected carcinogens (cancer causing substances)
studies of non-smokers exposed to environmental tobacco smoke show an increased risk of lung cancer of the order of 16 to 19 per cent. The IARC review led the authors to conclude that 鈥淭his evidence is sufficient to conclude that involuntary smoking is a cause of lung cancer in never smokers.

MOVE! If this is not realistic, then you are in harms way as the cigaette smoke is doing you more harm than it is doing them. You really need to find a way to avoid these toxins from entering your respiratoy system to reverse the damage that has already been done to you. Good Luck!

just ignore whaterver they say to you and complain to some one

I am going thru the same thing. I don't smoke-in fact I have been in remission for cancer since 1988. I finally made the decision that my husband could not smoke in the house or anyone else cause I have so much respiratory problems. I would say for your health you will have to move as it will just complicate any health issues for now and the future. Obviously, you won't be able to get thru to them. Smokers are very strong willed people and don't like being told they can't smoke.

If the people that you live with can't see the seriousness the smoke has on you; are you in any position where you can get your own place. Or move in with a non-smoking friend?
I used to work in a few places that allowed smoking. There was no such thing as no smoking in the work place like today. I didn't like it but it went along with the job. Today that is not the case. When I went home from work my clothes would reek of smoke.
I remember going to the doctor for a check-up and many times when the doctor would listen to my chest, he would ask me if I smoked. So, I think that second hand smoke is not good for anybody. Look at the people who smoke around their babies.
