How bad is secondhand smoke?

MY FINANCE SMOKES CONSTANTLY AND I HAVE A SIX YEAR OLD SON.

If it bothers you so much, then why is this person your fiancee? I hate when non smokers marry, or plan to marry smokers, then all of a sudden their smoking becomes a problem.
Let me tell you my experience. My dad smoked 3 packs a day around my mom, sister and myself, and we didn't get cancer from second hand smoke.
It's all a bunch of garbage. If you really care about your fiancee then the smoking wont bother you. If it all of a sudden does, then find a non smoker who can complain with you about all the smokers in the world.

Your finance is an idiot.

In some studies, it can be worse for the second hand smoker than the actual smoker-check it out online.

its pretty much jst as bad as smoking especially if its a young child thats gettin the second hand smoke

Second hand smoke is worse than actual smoking. That statement is actually misleading but what it means is that smoke that hasnt gone through the filter is worse than the smoke the smoker takes in through the filter. The smoker and non smoker get both types.

And your fiance should NOT be smoking indoors around your son. Smoking has been linked to most every type of cancer. My cancer was caused by the benzene in cig smoke. Leukemia diagnosed at 21. I am now 24 and have lost the last 3 years of my life to cancer. My uncle died from cancer caused by cigs. His started in the esophogas and spread.

But, even if the smoker never gets cancer, anyone exposed to enough smoke of ANY kind WILL get copd.

Smoking is also linked to a ton of other issues including depression (almost all smokers are clinically depressed when you run the chem tests and brain scans).

I suggest you get your fiance to stop and I cant tell you what to do with your life but it should be a deal breaker especially considering your young child.

However, dont be mistaken by thinking he can do it alone or with you nagging. He needs to be on anti depressants (wellbutrin/zyban.. same med but insurance will pay if it is rxed as an anti depressant rather than the zyban). A patch can help, but honestly the chemical addiction is best dealt with cold turkey. The nicotine is out of the system in 72 hours and the chemical addiction is gone after 2 weeks. He also needs to see a psychologist or addiction counselor or other mental health professional. I also even recommend going as far as the aa 12 steps. You really trully need ALL those things to quit successfully without a ton of torment.

I have smoked all my life,I used to be a welder and done work on cargo vessels (coaters) cutting out old sea water pickled iron and steel plate this was done by flame cutting with loads of smoke fumes what got in your eyes and made them water loads of choking and coughing up,then you got to cut and weld the new plate in the bottom of the coater,All this was done with no ventilation,But i am still here, can't understand people complaining about a puff of smoke.

having (so far) survived lung cancer as a non smoker, but having grown up in a "blue cloud", I would only say that it is at least as 'bad' as smoking; some say it's worse.
why risk anything to find out decades later that someone IS affected.

Its almost the same.

Throw water in his face when he smokes near your son! I'm serious. If your son develops a disease it will be your fault as much as your fiance.

I got cancer from second hand smoke.
Have double mastectomy now.
Mom and Dad smoked. I never smoked.
You are giving your child cancer if you stay with this man smoking in front of your child.
Your choice,not the child's.

tell you fiancee to go out and smoke away from your child
