Secondhand-smoke from candles? |
my mom says that you can get second-hand smoke from candles and insence but i say that you can't because the smoke has to have the toxins that cigarettes and cigars and stuff have. who is right? Second hand smoke NO ! But any candle no matter the wax scent or wicking could cause allergies to flair up or even sinus infections in people who are highly sensitive of this similar to the use of perfume or colognes. If you are worried about the issue please check out the consumer product safety commissions web site, this is who sets the regulations for producing candles there is plenty of info there that may help you decipher which type of candle would best suited for you and your home. I would highly suggest looking into a handmade product instead of mass produced products this way you can generally ask the chandler if there candles meet CPSC's regulations for candles. As you can see I am a candler and you are welcome to take a look at my store I have a whole page dedicated to the safety precautions of candles. I'd call it firsthandsmoke. Not even close. Cigarettes contain nicotine, tar, ammonia and a zillion other poisons. your not going to get cancer from candles like your not gonna get cancer from smoking weed. I'm not saying you should go do that but it's just the chemicals Cigarettes and Cigars have in them... So basically you are right. There is a warning on candles that say the fumes can be considered toxic. Its a specific type of wick, but there is some truth. Only if you have allergies to the perfume essence in the candles or incense,or suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases,in which, breathing these fumes would induce a "attack" causing the airway's in the lung to go into a spasm". You are right ,it would be the exhaled tars and nicotine that are known carcinogens,(candles and incense don't have this )from cigarette smoke that's the culprit. Take care. SW FNP |
