Why does everyone think smokers are the lowest form of human beings?

Many people would say it's because not only is smoking dangerous for your health, but it's also harmful to others'. However, consider these:

1) Health disease is the number one killer in the U.S., not lung cancer (from secondhand smoke or otherwise). If there's such thing as a dangerous activity, it's eating too much unhealthy food and forgetting to exercise afterward. We should now treat obese people with just as much contempt!

2) Spreading gossips causes just as much harm to others. For one thing, it may result in psychological damage for objects of gossips, which may lead to depressions or, in worst cases, suicides. In the case of secondhand gossips, innocent passerbys will develop a significantly lower IQ and tendencies to murder teenagers with superficial concerns. Either way, not good.

In summary: just as obese people and gossipers are treated as human beings, so should smokers be!

Smokers are weak. They have no self-discipline. You are ruining your health and your wallet. The on top of that we have to breath in that nasty second hand smoke. Why should people respect that?
And who called smokers "the lowest form of human beings?"

Yes...obese people are just as annoying, if not more because they take up too much room.

Who said gossipers are good people? But obese people don't effect others.

smokers are inconsderate fools. They kill not only themselves but they kill people around them. 2nd hand smoking is more of a danger because it is unfiltered and is more harmful then the crap they put in their own lungs. Smoking should be bannned but it never will because the govt relies to heavily on the taxes. Lives for money. Sounds like a good swap doesn't it?

OK, when an obese person eats, they don't harm people around them. Usually. When a smoker smokes, the smoke travels in all directions, including innocent people's lungs. What did they do to deserve that punishment?

Spreading gossip doesn't get a normal, happy person killed. You don't develop IQ. You're born with it. Either way, you IGNORE it. oooh, wow. Tough concept, right?

I used to smoke but quit a couple of years ago. I just watched a loved one become very, very ill from it and decided if I didn't want to end up like him in 30 yrs it was time to stop...I still crave one sometimes, but it gets easier the longer I am away from it.
I don't think smokers are bad people, but I just hope you realize what can happen to you when you do smoke---even though I did, until I saw the results first hand, I never really gave it much thought.

Okay, I read your statement above...yes I guess we all make choices...(but I tend to think that we treat obese people more prejudicially than smokers)
And yes gossip is bad...but I don't listen to it.
THe bottom line that I feel about smokers is that I don't really care if you smoke or not...what I do care about is breathing in your 2nd hand smoke..not so much because of the health hazards as the fact that it smells repulsive to a non smoker.
Also, forget about sex with a smoker...whoever coined the phrase was right...kissing a smoker is like licking an astray.
You can do whatever you want with your life....it doesn't really bother me until you start to infringe on my territory...and then I object.....You should know that at one time in my life I was a very heavy smoker....I had no idea how badly I stank until a year after I had quit...If you ever stop----you'll see what I mean.

Smoking is getting banned in a lot of places nowadays. It's just that secondhand smoking is harmful to those that don't smoke; one of my neihgbors smokes, and we don't bother him too much, but it's VERY dangerous because he's recently had a baby son. Whenever I see a smoker, the bold words of that Hot Topic t-shirt come into my head... There are cooler ways to die! Smoking is bad, and it pains me so much to see teens on the street doing that... wasting away their life.

Is considered to be the factor of maintaining an open mind.. Most people have a lot of problem with the door sticking and can't get it opened.

Even though I'm a non-smoker, I think people are going too far to condemn those that do. People who judge you for a personal habit that they care not to indulge in, for whatever reasons they have, are small-minded.

Smoking is not healthy but it is your choice-ignore the self righteous that need to get a life. Us fat people are not treated any different. We get nagged about our health and how we effect our children. I have been ragged on for being overweight just as much as when I was skinny and smoking. You can't win.
