How many of you all are effected by public smoking?

Please say where you are effected (eating places, etc.) or if your town has a smoking ban. Also if you know someone seriously effected by secondhand smoke ^_^ thank you.

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We have had a smoking ban in effect for years now.

I used to be a full time smoker of more than a pack a day for over 25 years. I quit cold turkey 9 years ago when I could no longer walk 5 minutes to my neighbourhood mall without threatening to pass out from not being able to breathe.

Since then my breathing is back to normal, and my endurance is almost what it was before I started smoking, I can attest to the fact that quitting is a GOOD THING.

However, if I find myself stuck close to smokers at all, even outside in the open air, and am forced to inhale any of their second hand smoke, I find myself getting dizzy and ready to pass out. My lungs just seem to close up almost entirely and it really HURTS to breathe.

We have a public smoking ban.

I am. I hate it.

Our ban in Arizona goes in effect on May 1 and i am so thankful...Smoke makes me ill just by smelling it.

lung cancer is the number one killer of women
The chemicals in cigarettes mutate a tumor supressing gene called p53, which stops cell division. When that gene is damaged as by cigarette smoke, cells divide and form tumors which spread to form cancer
so everyone is affected because all breathe
how selfish of smokers to put our health in danger

I had asthma when I was a kid and hardly ever needed medication but after working in a bar for about a year the asthma was triggered. I'm happy the no-smoking ban was brought in. Sorry to smokers. xx

smoking is banned in Jersey, but my friends and i often go to Philly, where if the bar or club is privately owned, you can smoke in it. Occasionally being around smoke bothers me, but usually after a night in a bar in Philly, i have a hard time breathing the next day, and cough like an old lady. I hate it. I have asthma, and it was under control for about 8 years ( i wasn't around smoke) but for the past 9 months,-i've been around smoke more and my asthma has been pretty bad (meaning i need my rescue inhaler at least once or twice a day) which really sucks.

We have a blanket ban that covers all public places here in Scotland, to the point of people getting fined for smoking in telephone kiosks (拢80 or $155)

just last week i was at the mall, in the food court to be exact, and their were a few older men sitting in the table near mine, all four of them where smoking, and when various people asked them to please stop they didn't listen because they know that all though it's a "smoke free" mall the management doesn't enforce it at all.

I worked for the State for 30 years, and the public was allowed to smoke in our office, at times, it was so bad, you couldn't see across the room. It was stopped 3 years before I retired. I'm still worried that my health may be affected. Or State has gone smoke free, by state election. Of course, some places of business, such as bars and private clubs are appealing. Right now, it is illegal to smoke in a company vehicle. I think that is good. Just think about, how much it costs in health care, for smokers and people affected by second hand smoke. Tax payers just can't afford it anymore.

I am on oxygen, I can't go a lot of places because smoking is allowed

Well, a big party with lots of cigarettes make me stink bad after i arrive home. So i like no smoke thanks, pass me the brandy though...?

I am because of my asthma and my mom is from her emphysema. They were trying to ban smoking in restaurants and public places but the bars are sueing saying it will hurt business. Smokers are all over the news saying if you don't like smoke don't go to places that allow it. Even in non smoking sections the smoke comes over and I have been plenty of places where they either make you walk through smoking to get to non smoking or to use the restroom it is in the smoking section. Really until smokers (like my mom used to be) are unable to breath with a disease then they will keep up with their we should be allowed to smoke where ever we want. You try to go to the Dr. and can't breath by the time you go in because of all the smokers standing by the front door or any bldg really. I think any smoker who thinks they should be able to smoke anywhere they want should be forced to be suffocated with a pillow until they think they are going to die and then be asked if they liked it? and that is how people with asthma and other breathing conditions feel sitting or walking by your smoke. If not being able to breath isn't bad enough then you have to take the smell with you until you are able to shower and then the smell is on your clothes until your able to wash them, most people can't go and wash an outfit everytime your near smoke. When your really allergic to it that causes the problem to come home and be in your house. Smokers and Govt. don't care about the extent the public smoking causes people with breathing problems.
