Help! I live in an apartment building and my upstairs neighbor smokes. How do I eliminate the oder?

My apartment building is over 30 years old. When I first moved into my apartment (even though the carpet was shampooed), there was still a stale oder of smoke from the previous tenant, but it wasn't enough of a problem to bother me. Now, however, the smoke from the upstairs neighbor bothers me intensely - even to the point of making my eyes tear! I've never smoked; yet I feel as if I'm breathing secondhand smoke, and it affects my throat. (I'm a singer.) I've tried fabreeze, oust, etc. to eliminate the oder, but to no avail. I'm assuming the smoke is somehow coming in through the walls, and my open sliding glass doors, but closing them is not an option - unless I don't want to breathe! Neither is moving! And I doubt if this person will quit smoking. Any suggestions?

I know what you mean. My neighbor smokes and I don't. We light candles, incense, and use febreeze. We haven't found any other way of dealing with this yet.

i would haul your a$$ to the office and let them know what is goin on and most apartment office will help you with the problem, i live in apartment and that is one question they ask before you move in, since we do have neighbors i make my hubby go outside to smoke, i would talk to the office and explain how you feel about it and i bet ya they will do somethin about it

your going to need to get an air purifier that Ionizes the air...kind like the ones that sharper image and orek sell...those Ionizers are the only thing that worked for me

hey there im am gonna 2 try 2 help you out ok listern now u said that you stay in apartment & your ^ staris Neighbor smokes tell him that you dont like da smoke smell and that you want him to stop and everything esle and if doesnt stop tell da land lord or that you will be finding somewhere esle 2 live.

small bowls of vinegar placed around your home will help and you could buy your neighbor your neighbor a smokeless ashtray they work very well
