Second opinion for neck and shoulder pain?? |
I was a passenger in a car about a month ago, when we were in a bad car wreck. the front of our car hit the side of the other person's car. I had x-rays done on my neck and shoulder area right after it and they found nothing. i also went to see a doctor 2 weeks after it and he took more x-rays..still nothing. He sent me to physical therapy i went 5 times a week for 4 weeks. I went back and he said go back for 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Well its been 6 weeks since i've been there now and im in unbareable pain at the moment. How long does it take for physical therapy to help this? Should i get a second opinion? How do i bring up the thought of an MRI to them? The pain went away during some of the physical therapy.. but this could be because i was sick and all my focus went on that. but now that im no longer sick, the pain went back to its original state. I agree also...if the physical therapy is causing more pain then you should stop and your doctor needs to do further medical evaluation on you such as an MRI. The physical therapist is designing a treatment plan on the diagnosis provided by the doctor...if the diagnosis is incorrect or incomplete then the treatment plan will be ineffective or possibly more harmful. If your doctor will not do any further tests or send you to see a pain specialist then find another doctor. you should stop physical therapy if your pain is increasing and you should go to doctor for second opinion. just ask if an MRI wil help figure things out? Instead of a 2nd opinion, ask to be referred to a neurologist or pain specialist. I have chronic shoulder pain. I spent over 1,000.00 on physio-therapy and acupuncture and it did hardly anything. I them tried a "Registered" Massage Therapist. I only see him once every 2 weeks and my pain is almost gone!!! 4 visits only!!! stop everything and go get an MRI!!!!!!!!!!!! Same thing happened to me. I went to PT AND THEN MY KNEE BLEW UP AND LEFT HIP STARTED HURTING REALLY BAD. Needless to say, i was going because of my back, i have severe scoliosis and since then i have had minor knee surgery so that i could have a total hip replacement. SO STOP and GO GET AN MRI!! MRI'S SHOW THINGS THAT X-RAYS DO NOT!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW!!! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS..................... The Dr. works for YOU and makes a living on people like us!! I as well was in a tractor accident and did what you did with the P.T. and x-rays. I found out x-rays and P.T. are a waste of time and may worsen your problem unless you zero in on the problem. The MRI showed a torn rotator cuff. An MRI will show things an x-ray doesn't. I agree with the others, tell the doctor you want an MRi that this is making it worse. They are obviously guessing as they first and second x-ray showed nothing yet they still sent you to PT, strange. If the PT is making it worse, stop its time to go in a different direction with the diagnosis and treatment. |
