Second opinion fears?

im worried because im tryin to pursue a second opinion at the moment because i was unhappy with last psychiatrist opinion, he said i had a personality dysfunction/ disorder, but wasnt specific enough and vague. plus he didnt feel i needed meds because i didnt have depression or mental illness....but im worried because im thinkinking say if i tell the next psyche about my , being detached from things when out, my inner anger outbursts, feelings of anger towards people, my low moods, feeling despair, my high states of anxiety and panic, which keep me in all the time, the feeling of im going to lose control of my anger, so i stay inside, angry thoughts, my racing thoughts, worryin and obsessing about things constantly...........im worried that after all ive told him this the next psych aggrees with the last one that ive got some kind of personality disorder and not a mood disorder or anxiety disorder or bi polar and i wont get treated for these because this is what i believe i have

First thing you need to do is find a psychiatrist that will listen to YOU about your problems and how you are feeling.

Second, you need only to tell that 1 doctor about the symtoms you feel you are having and then let that doctor take it from there, if they don't feel the same as you about your problems, ask questions such as: "THEN WHY DO I FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO EXPLODE IN AN ANGRY FIT AT ANY POINT"? Something in that nature.

I have the best psychiatrist I have ever had in my life, he not only helps treat my illness, but he listens too me as well. I find this to be one of the most important things in a doctor. Because if the doctor doesnt' listen to you and what is going on with you, then he is not treating your illness properly and only guestamating what is really going on inside of you. That way he/she gives you a medication just to satisfy you so you feel like you've been treated.

When given any medications, you have the right as an individual to refuse them. Always ask what the medication is for or what does it do? The doctor may not be able to tell you right off the bat what is wrong with you, it may take several visits to find what you really need, if anything. Don't be alarmed though, sometimes it can take 2 or 3 visits until a doctor is really prepared to let you know even a part of your diagnoses.

I hope this has helped you in someway, please keep in touch with me at: dbtgrad2002@adelphia.net. We can always share our experiences of doctors or mental states with each other and I would enjoy that.

I hope this works out for you in the long run.

Don't tell them you have seen another psychiatrist, wait until after you get his/her opinion.

so what you are basically saying is you want drugs for treatment?
this is a sad road road to start going down. not that you should not pursue a second opinion because you sound like you have a depression problem - drugs arent always the answer - keep that in mind, they treat only a chemical mechanism in the brain - not your life problems - this is what your psyche should help you out with

You have a lot going on and need a competent psychiatrist and a highly skilled psychologist to see you through it. If you are unhappy with your MD, contact a teaching hospital (one affiliated with a medical school) and see an attending psychiatrist. Attendings are the ones who teach the docs in training. They are up on the latest drugs and research, and do research themselves. They can refer you to a psychologist who can help you sort out your feelings.
Good Luck!
