Want second opinion on my braces, where do i find another dentist?

i've had my braces for about 3 yrs now. about 6 months ago, i felt like the adjustments were to my satisfaction, so i asked the dentist if i he could take it off. he thought it was "almost good, " but he wanted to push the upper teeth further back. and six months later, he's still adjusting my teeth, making them feel MORE uncomfortable each time.
problems: when i bite forward now, my 4 front teeth cant rlly touch cuz my other teeth push together, making it really hard to bite thin things (eg breaking off a piece of noodle or thread). also, for some reason, he didn't put brackets on my 4 back teeth, so now the bottom ones are taller than all my other teeth by about 2mm.
dentist is kinda irresponsible...like today, the bracket on my second last tooth (a molar) wasn't replaced. he's done this before and my teeth had gone crooked, so i don't think u r suppose to have an odd # of brackets..
so yea, is it possible to get a 2nd opinion from another dentist? and where if possible?
thanks~

i live in toronto, ontario, canada

In almost all cases of orthodontic work it requires first and second molar banding. I would have to see x rays and photos of your teeth post-ortho and now, to determine where you are in your treatment. I will say that over 3 years in treatment, usually involves extensive work. Most all orthodontic treatment can be completed in anywhere from a year and a half to two years, although some do take longer if palatal expansion or other work is required. A few questions you need to ask if your dentist is performing orthodontic work; is he qualified, licensed and experienced? There are some dentists that are highly qualified, have completed all of their required hours that allows them to perform orthodontic treatment. There are some that are in the process of completing their hours and training and just lack in their experience. You may want to see an Orthodontist for a consultation; this is usually free of charge. You can request copies of any x rays and any models that your dentist has; which will help the Orthodontist to determine where you are for completion of treatment. Ask friends or relatives for a referral to a licensed Orthodontist. You can also check the phone book; just make sure you see an Orthodontist. Good luck.

Additional information: Don't think that you must continue with this dentist if you don't feel that you are receiving the correct treatment. Most dentists don't "care" to complete someone else鈥檚 work, but most will when necessary, but always at an additional charge.

This web site may give you some answers and offer a list of licensed Orthodontist in your area.

I would definitely get a second opinion, however because I have no idea where you live I would suggest looking in the phone book or just ask other people for references on their orthodontist.

If you are going to a dentist I would highly recommend a orthodontist, My best friend went to a dentist for braces to fix the gap in her front teeth he fixed it temporarily when she was a teen and now she is 26 and may sue him due to complications. I went to an actual Orthodontist and my teeth are perfect and I used to have an over bite, I am 26 and my teeth look great I get compliments all the time.

No other orthdontist will treat you now. It is his work to finish.
